Alternate Metering Systems
The City of South St. Paul has met with customers and responded to their concerns by offering multiple metering system options. Residents may apply to install an alternate metering system if desired.
Standard Meter
- The standard system is a water meter integrated with a radio transmitter.
- This system is maintained and read by the City at no additional cost.
Meter with Exterior-Mounted Radio Metering System
- The water meter is connected by cable to an exterior-mounted radio reading device.
- The City maintains the meter and radio device, but not the cable.
- The property owner is responsible for maintaining the cable according to South St. Paul standards.
- This system is read by the City at no additional charge.
Meter with Exterior-Mounted Non-Radio Metering System (Touchpad)
- The water meter connects via cable to an exterior-mounted non-radio reading device (touchpad).
- The City maintains the meter and touchpad, but the cable is the homeowner’s responsibility.
- This option incurs a one-time installation charge and an additional reading fee of $12 per occurrence (subject to change).
- The $12 fee applies to each reading and billing cycle (quarterly for residential, monthly for commercial).
