Safety Camp
South St. Paul, along with the communities of Mendota Heights and West St. Paul, has participated in the Safety Camp program since 1992. The camp is held each July at Kaposia Park in South St. Paul. More than 130 children, approximately 10 years of age, are invited to take part in this three-day event. Parents drop off their children in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon.
Safety Stations
Children are supervised by camp counselors who guide them from station to station. At each station, campers learn about various aspects of everyday safety, including:
- DARE
- Stranger Danger
- 911 Use
- Electrical Safety
- Fire Safety
- Boating Safety
Between learning sessions, campers enjoy games and practice their Safety Camp songs. On the final day, a family barbecue is held where campers showcase what they’ve learned and perform their songs for parents and guardians.

Safety Camp is coordinated by the local Parks and Recreation Departments and supported by South St. Paul VFW Post 295.
