Tips for Hiring a Tree Care Professional

Check for proof of insurance, including liability and workers’ compensation coverage.
Look for certification from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or other organizations such as the Tree Care Industry Association.
Get multiple estimates and request all costs in writing.
Do not feel pressured to sign quickly or pay in advance.
Ask for and check references from previous clients.
A good arborist or tree care company:
- WILL offer a variety of services such as pruning, removal, and pest control.
- Will NOT recommend topping a tree, only corrective pruning when necessary.
- Will NOT use climbing spikes on a healthy tree unless it’s being removed.
- Will NOT push to remove a healthy, living tree—removal should be a last resort.
