Domestic Partnership Registration
The establishment of a Domestic Partnership Registration allows cohabitating but unmarried or otherwise unrelated couples to register as domestic partners for a nominal fee. Registrants receive a certificate verifying their registration.
Registering as domestic partners may provide eligibility for certain benefits or protections voluntarily offered by employers. It may also be used to establish recognition as a health care agent for a domestic partner.
Eligibility
The program is open to individuals who can provide identification and proof of cohabitation. Residency in the City of South St. Paul is not required.
Program Administration
- The program is administered by the City Clerk’s Office.
- The registration fee is $25.00 per partnership.
- Registrations remain in effect indefinitely unless terminated by one of the partners.
Amending a Registration
To amend a Domestic Partnership Registration (such as a legal name change or change of address), individuals must submit an Amendment Form and pay a $25.00 Amendment Fee. Amendments cannot be used to replace one domestic partner with another.
Terminating a Registration
To terminate a Domestic Partnership Registration, individuals must submit a Termination Form along with a $25.00 Termination Fee to the City Clerk’s Office.
