About Us

Doug Woog Arena, formerly Wakota Arena, has been a cornerstone of South St. Paul’s hockey tradition and community pride since it opened in 1962. As one of Minnesota’s first indoor ice arenas, it quickly became a hub for youth hockey and a training ground for future legends. Over the years, the arena has hosted countless games, including training for the 1964 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, and has served as home ice for high school teams, junior leagues, and state tournaments.Front doors of Doug Woog Arena

Renamed in 2015 to honor South St. Paul native and hockey icon Doug Woog, the arena now features two ice rinks, modern facilities, and a legacy of fostering both athletic excellence and community connection. Today, it continues to serve as the home ice for South St. Paul Boys’ and Girls’ Hockey while hosting events that celebrate the spirit of the game.
