Upcoming Election Dates:
Special Election - Tuesday, May 12th, 2026
ALL VOTERS for this School District Special Election will vote at: Lawshe Museum. 130 3rd Ave N, South St. Paul (across the street from City Hall).
Absentee Voting for the School District Special Election will begin on Friday, March 27th, 2026, at South St. Paul City Hall.

Statewide Primary - Tuesday, August 11th, 2026
The purpose of the Statewide Primary is to narrow the field of candidates for various offices. Partisan races on the Statewide Primary ballot are party specific, which require a voter to vote only for candidates of one party. Other offices may also be on the ballot which are non-partisan and will not require a voter to choose a political party.
General Election - Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026
The 2026 General Election will include the following races on the ballot:
- U.S. Senator
- U.S. Representative
- Governor & Lt. Governor
- Secretary of State
- State Auditor
- Attorney General
- State Senator
- State Representative
- Judicial Seats
- City Council Members
- School Board
Voters may have one or more of these races on their ballot:
- County Officials,
Interested in Running for City Council in 2026?
Candidate Filings for three (3) City Council seats will open on Tuesday, May 19th at 8:00 AM and close at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026. Filings must be submitted in person at City Hall and require proof of residency. The filing fee is $2.00 payable by cash or check. The Affidavit of Filing will be available at City Hall or online later this year.
Seats that will be open are currently being filled by:
- Joe Kaliszewski
- Tom Seaberg
- Matthew Thompson
Each of these seats are four-year terms beginning January 2027.
If more than six (6) candidates file for the open seats, the field of candidates will be included on the August 11th, 2026 Primary Ballot to narrow the field to six (6).
If 6 or fewer candidates file, they will be on the November 3rd, 2026, General Election only.
