Is City Approval Required for Native Planting Landscape Areas?

There is no application or permit process required prior to planting. However, talk with your neighbors about your plan, the benefits of native plantings, and how they differ from overgrown turf grass and noxious weeds.

Native Planting Guidelines

 Ordinance 1354  outlines requirements for native plant landscape areas, including:

  • All existing turfgrass must be removed before planting native species.
  • Plantings must be set back at least five (5) feet from all property lines (front, side, and rear).
  • Soil erosion control must be in place during and after establishment of the planting.
  • Plants must be maintained according to industry standards, which may include seasonal trimming.
