Northview Pool

Outdoor view of Northview Pool in Northview Park

Northview Pool Letter

Northview Pool will not open this summer as we prepare the site for a new outdoor aquatics center.

We know this news brings mixed emotions. For decades, Northview Pool has been a large part of South St. Paul summers, and we know many residents care deeply about its future. During the pool feasibility study, residents took the time to share thoughtful input, and that feedback helped guide the City Council’s direction. The City engaged JLG Architects to conduct a comprehensive feasibility and design study, and in November 2025, the City Council authorized the next phase of work, including architectural and engineering services. This decision followed careful review of the pool’s age, condition, long-term sustainability, and the cost of maintaining aging facilities.

Closing the current pool is a necessary step toward building a modern, accessible facility that can serve residents of all ages and abilities for years to come. Our team remains focused on moving this work forward carefully and responsibly. We are working closely with Senator Klein and Representative Hansen to pursue state funding and reduce the impact on local taxpayers. We will continue to share updates as plans progress.

We know this summer will look a little different without Northview Pool, but there is still plenty happening across our community. Lorraine Splash Pool will be open for swimming and lessons, the SSP Color Run returns to Kaposia Landing, Splish Splash Bash is back, we will host a Drive-In Movie Night at Kaposia Landing, and we will also host several free community concerts at Jefferson Park, along with many other programs, events, and activities.

I invite you to read through this newsletter to learn more about what’s ahead this summer. We hope to see you at our parks and events

Sincerely,
Shannon Young
